December 1, 2017 – ATA Professional Development Day

This day is dedicated to individual teacher self-directed professional development as provided through the ATA.  Teachers focus on specific areas identified in their Professional Growth Plans  to enhance their instructional practice with the goal of impacting student achievement.

Examples of some topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Healthy Interactions
  • Instructional Design Series for Teachers of Students with Moderate-Severe Intellectual Disabilities
  • NVCI Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
  • A+ Emergency First Aid (includes Adult + Child  CPR)

November 1, 2017 – Combined Professional Development Day

  • K-9 ELA Curriculum Mapping – full day sessions
  • Physical Literacy Awareness at ESBCHS:
  • Morning sessions will include an introduction to Physical Literacy in the school-wide setting including definitions, significance, impact on student achievement as well as examples of activities that teachers can use in a variety of classes to encourage movement.
  • Multiple Scheduled sessions for teachers of other subject areas/grades will be offered across the school division  in a variety of locations.  These sessions will provide opportunities for teachers to work collaboratively with colleagues from across Black Gold to meet their professional growth plans  to enhance their instructional practice with the goal of impacting student achievement.

October 20, 2017 – Combined Professional Development Day

K-9 Curriculum Mapping Sessions

  • Morning – Math
    • All K-9 Math teachers to attend plus one administrator per school
  • Afternoon – Science
    • All K-9 Science teachers to attend plus one administrator per school

Multiple Scheduled sessions for teachers of other subject areas/grades across the school division  in a variety of locations

Multiple Scheduled sessions for Support Staff

Professional Learning Communities:  opportunities for teachers to work collaboratively with colleagues from across Black Gold to meet their professional growth plans to enhance their instructional practice with the goal of impacting student achievement.

Departments will continue to be engaged in Professional Learning Communities working together to implement the strategies they identified to achieve their respective goals. Activities include, but are not limited to: Noodletools, research skills development, development and alignment of numeric response questions, critical/analytical response enhancement, Google classroom, IPPs, Violence and Threat Risk Assessment refresher,data collection, analysis of writing exemplars, FNMI research etc.

BGRS Division-based professional development is also provided for all Support Staff including Secretaries, Library Clerks and Technicians, Accounting Technicians, Education Assistants, Beauty Culture Technicians, Educational Transliterators, and LPNs.  Sessions include but are not limited to various appropriate Google Apps training, First Aid, Autism training,

  • Increased proficiency for support staff with Google apps found in the school setting
  • Successful involvement of all staff toward the shared goals of ESBCHS

September 15, 2017 – School-based Professional Development

 Morning:
All – Black Gold Welcome Back and Long Service Ceremony

Afternoon:

  • School-based PD Activities including:
    • Department goal setting and strategy development for the current school year
    • Diploma Exam reviews
    • PAT reviews
    • PowerTeacher Pro assessment and reporting tool in-service and set-up.
  • Collaborative team meetings within Departments to establish targeted, school-wide goals and strategies to achieve those goals.
  • Analysis of achievement data to help develop goals.
  • Personal Professional Growth Plan development.
  • Teacher training on PowerTeacher Pro grade books reporting program which will be piloted by a number of our teachers this year.  As of 2018-19, PowerTeacher Pro will be used school-wide and division-wide by all teachers, replacing the current yet similar grading program.
