COVID-19 Updates & Information
Click here for more information from Black Gold School Division.
On Sunday, March 15, the Alberta Government cancelled all classes indefinitely across the province. All schools are closed to students starting Monday, March 16.
We know this decision has a significant impact on families, students and the larger community, but there’s nothing more important than the health and safety and well-being of our students, families and staff. We’re asking for your co-operation and understanding as we navigate this uncharted situation, together.
STAFF IN SCHOOLS
Teachers and other school staff who are healthy and not self-isolating, are expected to work at this time so we can make arrangements to best support our students.
Staff who are sick, including those with mild cold symptoms, are expected to stay home and follow all guidance from Alberta Health Services.
The Alberta Government has said school authorities are expected to continue regular day-to-day operations to ensure the safety of school facilities. Maintenance, capital projects, cleaning of facilities, and administrative work will continue.
REGISTRATION FOR NEXT YEAR
ESBCHS will be communicating our plan for obtaining student registration choices for next year within the next few weeks. Please monitor parent and student emails as information will likely be disseminated to both groups. We will be posting information to our website shortly pertaining to out of district students who wish to attend ESBCHS next year. Please check back regularly for updates as this is a constantly changing situation. We thank you for your patience.
ESBCHS will let families know when they are able to pick up students’ belongings. This is a school-based decision. Pick-up times will be staggered to ensure we’re supporting safe social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Instruction will be paused until Monday, March 23. We will be looking into instructional alternatives for students. We know families have a lot of questions about student learning and we will release more information as it becomes available.
The Alberta Government has confirmed:
- Every student will receive a final mark and students will progress to their next grade level for the next school year.
- Provincial assessments, such as provincial achievement tests, will be cancelled.
- At this time, diploma exams essential for post-secondary acceptance will continue.
- Every student who is eligible to graduate from Grade 12 this year will graduate.
STAY UP TO DATE
ESBCHS will communicate directly with parents, and when warranted, directly with students
