Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP)

Prerequisite: Workplace Safety Systems (HCS3000) CTS Module plus completion of specific courses necessary to meet diploma requirements

Alberta’s innovative Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) allows full-time high school students to begin an apprenticeship training program as early as grade 11, earning credit toward both a High School Diploma/Certificate of High School Achievement and an apprenticeship program at the same time. RAP gives students a head start toward certification and a solid career as a certified journeyman. RAP students earn at least minimum wage. More information is available from the RAP coordinator in Student Services.

  • You can earn up to a maximum of 40 credits towards a high school diploma in the RAP program
  • Education through an apprenticeship in the trades IS post-secondary education Once registered, the student receives their Blue Book to log their Experience Hours. As a RAP student you can earn a salary for the 1000 hours + you will need for your Experience Hours
  • Scholarships are available
  • Skilled trades people are in short supply. A RAP apprentice gets on the job training in a skilled trade while being paid for that work
  • RAP offers an enriched, real world applicable, high school education
  • A RAP apprentice gets a realistic look at what it takes to be a journeyperson and learns employability skills that would be applicable to any job

If interested, please contact the Off-campus Coordinator.

Work Experience 15-25-35

(5 to 10 credits per course - 15 credit maximum can be applied to the High School Diploma)

Prerequisite: Workplace Safety Systems HCS3000

Work Experience provides students with the opportunity to explore possible career options, learn related job skills, develop appropriate work-related attitudes and develop responsibility. Students can earn one credit for each 25 hours worked with a minimum 3 credits per semester and up to a maximum of 10 credits in a semester. Maximum of 15 credits for work experience can be counted towards a high school diploma. Work Experience hours can be earned Monday through Sunday from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm.  It is suggested that students work approximately 8-10 hours a week in order to complete the hours within three to four months. The employer and the work experience coordinator will conduct evaluations. Students must sign up for work experience at the beginning of each semester on a first come-first served basis and are expected to have already secured a job. See the Off-Campus facilitator in Student Services for more information.
