The French Immersion teaching team at ESBCHS believe that students have far greater, longer-lasting academic and linguistic success when the majority of their learning takes place in French.  French immersion is a successful approach to learning a second language as it provides students with opportunities to:

  • listen to French spoken by their teachers and their classmates,
  • practice speaking and reading in French on an on-going and regular basis,
  • take part in cultural experiences,
  • be a part of a smaller school within the larger school context, and
  • to live an educational experience that will stay with them in their future studies and careers.

In order to continue to study in the French Immersion Program through to grade 12, students must be enrolled in a minimum of two core subjects taught in French, one of which must be French Language Arts (FLA). Students who remain in the program will receive an ESBCHS Graduation Certificate in French indicating their successful completion of the French Immersion Program.
