The Musical Theater Program at ESBCHS has been going strong for 20 years; this show is a testament to its progression and success. Over 50 students have been working tirelessly for the past two months preparing this iconic musical. Through collaboration with Choreography and Art, The Sound of Music promises to delight.
The Sound of Music is the final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein was destined to become the world's most beloved musical. When a postulant proves too high spirited for the religious life, she is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval Captain. Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain, and they marry. Upon returning from their honeymoon, they discover that Austria has been invaded by the Nazis, who demand the Captain's immediate service in their navy. The family's narrow escape over the mountains to Switzerland on the eve of World War II provides one of the most thrilling and inspirational finales ever presented in the theater. The motion picture version remains the most popular movie musical of all time.
Whether they have been singing in Latin, painting mountainous sets or learning the Laendler (Austrian Folk Dance) theses student artists are creating an unforgettable experience for the audience. Don't miss it!

Tea with Jam and Bread Gala
This Gala event is a fundraiser for ESBCHS Block 5 Musical Theatre program. Come and join the cast for tea with jam and bread, as mentioned in the song Doe a Deer and also traditional crisp apple strudel, from the song My favourite things. Mingle with the cast who will be in full costume, have a photo taken with your favourite characters and have a cup of tea and snacks that pertain to the play. There will also be a silent auction, which will be going on during all performances.
You can purchase the Gala option with either the 2 pm Saturday Matinee or with the 7 pm Saturday evening performance or you may choose to attend only the Tea with Jam and Bread Gala by itself from 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm for $11.50. We would love to have you join us at the Gala!
