Principal’s Weekly Updates

Chris Stiles – Principal/Directeur

Message from Mr. Stiles

As some of you may have already heard, I have some bittersweet news to share. This year will be my final year as the proud principal of ESBCHS. It has been an absolute honour to serve in this capacity. Next year, I will be taking on a new and exciting role as a Division Principal. My new role will serve to support all school communities across the greater Black Gold School Division.

In my four years, I have been so fortunate to work with a building full of fantastic student learners, a staff that is second to none, and a parent community that is incredibly invested in the success of their children. ESBCHS is a school that is both growing and flourishing! I will never forget the time I have spent in this wonderful building.

This is not quite goodbye yet!  I look forward to the next two and a half months, working with staff to ensure that we finish the 2023/24 school year on a high!  Grade 12 commencement is right around the corner and it is my absolute favorite day of the school year. I look forward to seeing many of you soon at this joyous event.

As for next year? I hope to be back supporting the students and staff at ESBCHS wherever I am needed. This school will always have a special place in my heart.

Yours in Education,

Chris Stiles, Principal

    • Set goals for future school improvement

  • Semester 1 Final Marks were posted on Wednesday, January 31 on both the parent and student portals on PowerSchool.
    • NEW Report Cards: Parents can now view their child’s marks, attendance and teacher comments on a traditional report card directly in PowerSchool. To view the report card, please go to the PowerSchool website (click here for the link). In the menu items on the right hand side, click on the blue icon titled “Student Reports”. You will see an archived report called “S1 Final Report Card – Jan 2024”. These archived reports will always be available to you going forward as long as your child is attending a Black Gold School.
    • Final Exam Marks are not included in the new report card but can always be viewed in PowerSchool either on the main Grades and Attendance page under the E1 column or in Grade History in the box entitled E1.
    • Diploma Marks: Diploma marks will not be posted to PowerSchool. Alberta Education will post diploma marks directly onto myPass by February 19 if not before. Students need to set up their own myPass account. Before they can set up a MyPass account, they need to add a personal email address in the MyPass google form on the Grad Google Classroom ASAP. If your child is in grade 11, then direct them to the main office or reply to this email with their name and personal email address. They will then be able to set up a myPass account. Click here to view a short video on how to set up a myPass account. Parents can create their own account but once your child reaches the age of 18, Alberta Education will automatically deactivate the parent account. Parents who wish to set up an account should reply to this email with the email address you will use to set up the parent myPass account. Parents and students will need the ASN number to set up the myPass account. For most students, the ASN is on their student ID card or can be obtained from the main office or Student Services.

ESBCHS: Host Family Opportunity

Starting in January and concluding in March, ESBCHS will be hosting several students from Japan.  ESBCHS is looking for host families to provide a “home away from home” for our visiting students.  This is an amazing opportunity to learn about Japan by expanding your family for a time while offering a great experience to a visitor to our country.

Families will need to provide a room with a locking door, a place to do homework and have a strong desire to bring this student into their family life for the duration of their stay.  Families will be provided with a stipend to offset the costs of having another teenager in the house.

If you are interested in hosting a visiting student, please contact Mr. Stiles via email by December 8, 2023 at [email protected]

Please note that we anticipate more applicants to host than we will have students. As a result, not all applicants will be able to host.

Please see the attached documents and click on the links to the videos.

Thank you!

ESBCHS Reminder – November 6, 2023.

ESBCHS proudly presents our newest musical theater production, The Drowsy Chaperone playing at MacLab Theatre in Leduc November 15 – 18, 2023.

The Drowsy Chaperone is a lavish 1920s musical with vaudeville gags and Charleston’s galore!  Robert Martin is set to marry Janet van de Graaf, a young Broadway starlet giving up performing.  But between Janet’s inebriated Chaperone, the oblivious hostess Mrs. Tottendale, the egomaniacal lothario Adolpho, and Janet’s scheming producer, Feldzieg, there are more than enough hijinks to go around!  Of course, that’s not the musical we’re putting on.  Instead, prepare for The Drowsy Chaperone, which tells of the eccentric and melancholy Man In Chair, who puts on a record of his favorite musical, The Drowsy Chaperone, and imagines the show springing to life in his apartment.  Through his eyes, we learn why some of the gags performed have been distorted by historical context, how some of the characters we’re seeing are products of questionable acting talent, and what the truth is behind the darkness that haunts the Man in Chair.
